Bruno Ferrara Sardo

Located in the extraordinary wine-growing context of Etna, the small artisanal reality of Bruno Ferrara Sardo is the creator of genuine and sincere expressions of this unique territory. Bruno's approach to the world of viticulture began as a game while he spent his childhood summers among his grandfather's vineyards, a winemaker on Etna. Over time, he developed a growing interest in this ancient craft, deciding in the 1990s to start a small independent production from his grandfather's ancient vineyards, located in Randazzo, in Contrada Allegracore, on the northern slope of the volcano.

The small vineyard property of Bruno Ferrara Sardo extends over less than 2 hectares and includes very old vines of Nerello Mascalese, alongside a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio. The vines are rooted in volcanic soils at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level and are cultivated without the use of herbicides, pesticides, and other synthetic chemical products, using only copper and sulfur for protection.phytosanitary. The vineyards are therefore grassed while soil work is kept to a strict minimum, with harvesting carried out strictly by hand. The same genuine approach is adopted in the winery, where fermentations occur entirely spontaneously thanks to the only indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by about 15 days of skin maceration. The subsequent maturation phase also takes place in steel, thus avoiding the use of wood which for Bruno would somehow interfere with the purest expression of the terroir, just as any clarification and filtration operations would, which are therefore completely banned.

The Etna Rosso ‘Nzemmula’ is the emblematic wine of winemaker Bruno Ferrara Sardo, an interpretation of the volcanic territory of Etna that impresses with energy and tension, produced in very limited quantities. The name of the label, ‘Nzemmula’, is an invitation to conviviality and sharing, as in the local dialect this term means “together”.
