Còlpetrone
Còlpetrone is the youngest of the Tenute del Cerro estates, founded in 1995, and has quickly become one of the most important wineries in the Montefalco area. The estate is the Umbrian flagship of the group of twin wineries, once again confirming how their production is aimed at enhancing the most vocated territories of our peninsula. Despite being the last to arrive, Còlpetrone has already distinguished itself from the first harvests for a production appreciated by both the public and critics, leading to further expansion of territories and acquisition of new vineyards.
Còlpetrone extends in the Umbrian heart of Montefalco with about 63 hectares of vineyards, intended for the cultivation of the most characteristic native varieties such as Sagrantino, one of the oldest grape varieties in Italy, and Grechetto, but also Sangiovese and Merlot. As meticulous as the work in the vineyard, the winemaking process continues in the cellar to ensure the best expression of the grapes, under the guidance of winemakers Raffaele Pistucchia and Riccardo Cotarella. In 2005, a new winery was also built, partially embedded in the hillside of the estate, in order to ensure the best control of temperature and humidity while minimizing environmental impact.
Despite its relatively young age, Còlpetrone has been able to rediscover and enhance the millennial bond between these lands and the tradition of winemaking. The great potential of the region was indeed already known in Etruscan and Roman times, when the vines were so precious that they were cultivated within the fortified walls of the city, where large undeveloped areas were reserved. The winery seems to be well aware of the ancient heritage of the Montefalco area, constantly seeking to ensure continuity with such a heritage. The effort is distinctly recognized in the glass, in the sip of an extremely elegant niche production, which reveals a remarkable intensity and complexity. The winery is undoubtedly an impeccable ambassador of Tenute del Cerro in Umbria.
