Venit

By adopting a production approach based on sustainability, the young Friulian reality Venit produces wines that express the innovative dimension of PIWI grape varieties, varieties selected through numerous genetic crossings in search of the association between quality and disease resistance. These grape varieties thus allow for a drastic reduction in the use of plant protection treatments, with a consequent positive effect on the environment due to the lower impact of cultivation. The minds and hands behind this beautiful project are Elia and Marco, brothers of Venetian origin united by a strong passion for the world of wine, a passion that is the basis of their modern vision that has allowed them to bring a breath of fresh air to the Pordenone area. The two brothers inherited the love for viticulture from their grandfather Lino, who produced wine for personal consumption, and in 2019 they officially gave birth to the winery.

The 18 hectares of vineyards owned by the Venit estate fall within the production area of the DOC Friuli Grave, whose alluvial soil is rich in calcareous-dolomitic deposits, with a layer of compact clay called Caranto. Furthermore, the microclimate of the area is influenced both by the mountains, which protect the area from cold northern winds, and by the Adriatic Sea, with its mild breezes. Alongside indigenous and international varieties, such as Merlot, Carmenere, and Pinot Grigio, the estate cultivates numerous PIWI grape varieties, including Solaris, Soreli, Fleurtai, Sauvignon Rytos, Sauvignon Nepis, and Merlot Khorus. The agronomic management is based on the principles of certified organic farming while the harvest is done by hand with low yields of grapes per hectare, in order to enhance the quality of production. The processes mainly take place in stainless steel tanks, although large oak barrels and small American oak barrels are also used for aging.

The wines of Venit made from PIWI varieties are immediately recognizable by the shape of the eye on the label, a representation of the vision directed towards the future that guides the production of Elia and Marco.
