Wine and Soul
Wine and Soul is a family-run estate located in the Portuguese region of Douro. It is managed by Jorge Serodio and Sandra Tavares, a couple in life and in the vineyard, who decided to realize their dream of producing wines in one of the most beautiful and fascinating areas of Portugal. Jorge Serodio was born and raised in the Douro Valley. He comes from a family that has been producing Porto for five generations. After completing his studies in oenology, he began collaborating as a consultant for various estates in the Douro area and in 1999 decided to create his own project. Alongside him is Sandra Tavares, who after graduating in agronomy from the University of Lisbon and gaining experience in Italy, decided to move to the Douro region. The meeting with Jorge created a sentimental and professional bond that led to the establishment of Wine&Soul.
The Portuguese region of the Douro Valley is among the most beautiful from a landscape perspective and possesses a heritage of vineyards of exceptional historical value. Since its foundation,of the company, Wine & Soul has acquired old vineyards capable of authentically expressing the great tradition of the territory, through wines of exceptional value. The low natural yields of the old vines allow for the maturation of few clusters per plant, but of extraordinary expressive intensity, richness, and balance. All the vineyards of the estate are within the Douro region, but are located in different areas, with particular peculiar characteristics, so that each variety is placed in the most suitable location for its needs and can express itself at the highest qualitative level.
Quinta da Manoella is an estate owned by the Serôdio Borges family for 5 generations, located in the heart of the Vale do Pinhão. It extends over 60 hectares, of which only 20 are planted with vines, surrounded by a wild Mediterranean scrub forest, which ensures significant biodiversity. The Pinta vineyard was the first acquisition of Wine & Soul. It is a small property of only 2.5 hectares located at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level and characterized by the presence of very old vines, cultivated with 40 ancient Portuguese native grape varieties. The Pinta Character estate is located in the Vale do Pinhão and is divided into five different plots of old vineyards with the presence of over 30 local grape varieties, which produce deep, rich, and harmonious wines. The Altar estate is situated on the Fermentões plateau, at an altitude of 600 meters, with a cool north-facing exposure. On its schist soils, the Viosinho, Gouveio, and Arinto grape varieties find space. Finally, the Guru estate, also located at over 600 meters altitude, is cultivated with the native varieties Viosinho, Rabigato, Códega do Larinho, and Gouveio. The rocky soils, composed of granite and schist give elegant, refined, and mineral wines.
