S’Elegas is a Nuragus di Cagliari DOC, produced by the Argiolas winery in the province of Cagliari. It is a rare and beautiful expression of a native Sardinian white grape variety, not particularly known: the Nuragus. It has a floral and fruity personality, fragrant and pleasant to drink. It perfectly reflects the identity of the grape variety and its territory of origin. The Argiolas winery focuses heavily on enhancing local varieties and tradition to highlight the potential and characteristics of the Sardinian land. The vineyards dedicated to the production of this white wine are located at the Sa Tanca estate, which extends from the Guamaggiore area to that of Selegas. The estate covers about 80 hectares and consists of hills derived from the coarse limestones of the Miocene. The soils are heterogeneous, presenting a mixture of brown soils with good permeability and white soils rich in limestone. The vineyards in this area have an altitude varying between 200 and 350 meters, ensuring those temperature fluctuations necessary to achieve the finesse of the aromas and the varietal aroma. The harvest is strictly done by hand, during the early hours of the morning. After a soft pressing and a cold decantation, the must ferments and matures in stainless steel containers.
The S’Elegas by Argiolas presents, to the eye, a straw yellow color. The aroma is focused on flowers and fruit, with hints of peach and citrus against a background of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it opens with a soft and full-bodied sip that ends with an almond finish typical of the variety. The Argiolas Nuragus S’Elegas is a territorial and varietal wine that tells of a hidden side of Sardinia, translated into a grape variety as unknown as it is interesting.
