Domaine Jolivet
Domaine Jolivet is one of the most interesting and dynamic realities in the viticulture of the northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 2014 by Bastien Jolivet, a young and talented winemaker, it is now an emerging reference point for the Saint-Joseph appellation. The estate is located in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, one of the six historic municipalities of the AOC, on the right bank of the Rhône. Before founding his own domaine, Bastien gained formative experiences both in France (including the famous Domaine du Monteillet in Condrieu) and abroad, in New Zealand and South Africa. The decision to no longer sell grapes to the local cooperative and to start bottling his own wines marked the beginning of a rising path, culminating in the recognition as “Discovery of the Year 2020” at the Grand Prix de la Revue du Vin de France. In just a few years, Bastien has managed to secure a prominent place in the French wine scene thanks to wines that combine purity, character, and extraordinary territorial expressiveness.

The vineyards extend across different areas: nine hectares in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, in crus such as Les Blaches, Palet, and the ambitious project de l’Officier, a south-facing parcel with recent plantings of Syrah and Marsanne; another four hectares are located in Lemps, in the lieux-dits Chanaud and Chave, on granitic soils at 350 meters altitude. The dominant grape variety is Syrah, accompanied by a small presence of Marsanne and Roussanne for the whites. The oldest vines are up to 75 years old, and some of them, according to Bastien, could belong to the Serine variety, an ancient and qualitatively excellent form of Syrah. Each parcel is harvested manually and vinified separately, with spontaneous fermentations. Aging takes place in barrels of 228 and 600 liters, mostly of second and third passage. The result is unfiltered wines (or only minimally), with reduced use of sulfites, expressing energy, complexity, and authenticity.
The whites of Domaine Jolivet, although in smaller quantitative numbers, are of great elegance and character, thanks to the balanced use of the
