Meneghetti

Meneghetti is a prestigious winemaking reality of the Croatian side of Istria dedicated to both wine and oil production as well as hospitality. In fact, the estate has a luxurious Wine Hotel, surrounded by vineyards and complete with an attached cellar. The historical roots of this reality date back to the period immediately following the Napoleonic domination of Istria, when the territory returned under the Habsburgs. At that time, a man named Meneghetti purchased numerous hectares of land, starting to sell food to the local troops. Gradually, Meneghetti built houses and barns, planted vineyards and olive groves, and began raising goats and sheep. Over time, the estate became famous for its beauty, but then fell into a period of gradual abandonment, until in the early 2000s Miroslav Plišo and his wife Romana Kajfež purchased the property, restoring it to its former glory.

The vineyards of the Croatian estate Meneghetti are planted on red soils, low in organic matter but rich in stones and mineral elements such as iron, characteristics that favor quality viticulture. The management is based on sustainable practices and the vines are pruned by hand using the Simonit & Sirch system, aimed at the well-being and longevity of the plant. Among the varieties cultivated, the Malvasia Istriana stands out, an indigenous grape of this rugged patch of land, alongside the international grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The winemaking process utilizes cutting-edge technologies and is conducted with respect for the character of the territory, with vinifications in steel tanks and aging always in steel or in oak barrels of various capacities. The cellar also produces valuable Metodo Classico sparkling wines, aged with long rests on the lees.

The Meneghetti estate offers a rather wide and diversified selection of styles and types, with sparkling wines, whites, reds, rosés, and sweet wines of great pleasure. Some, like the Malvazija Istriana, fully reflect the tense and mineral character of the territory, while others offer a different yet equally intriguing interpretation, characterized by a more international style.
