Tenuta Montiani

Located in San Polo in Chianti, in the province of Florence, Tenuta Montiani is committed to a production aimed at enhancing the qualities of the typical Chianti grape varieties, with Sangiovese always in the spotlight. It is a family-run artisanal reality, led by the couple Marinella Vallauri and Michele Gherardo Totaro, along with David Picci and Matteo Vallauri. The winemaking and aging facilities are housed within the old storage areas for agricultural machinery, with the natural protection of stone that allows for optimal temperature and humidity levels throughout the year. In addition to viticulture, the farm produces oil and honey and is dedicated to raising poultry, pigs, and donkeys.

Tenuta Montiani encompasses a total of 25 hectares, of which nearly 5 are dedicated to vineyards, 2 to olive groves, and the remaining part reserved for vegetable gardens, orchards, medicinal plants, and pasture, in a context of flourishing biodiversity. The undisputed protagonist of the vineyard park is Sangiovese, the emblem of Chianti wine, accompanied by other indigenous varieties Mammolo and Canaiolo and the international grape Merlot. The plants, which can reach up to 50 years of age, are cultivated under certified organic conditions on characteristic soils predominantly composed of galestro, at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. The rows benefit from the Mediterranean climate, protected by forests and caressed by the sea breezes blowing from the coastline. After the manual harvest, always accompanied by careful selection of the grapes, the bunches are destemmed and then gravity-fed into fermentation tanks made of stainless steel, where only indigenous yeasts begin the spontaneous transformation of the must into wine, without the aid of any additives or enological aids. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is finally aged in large wooden barrels for a period ranging from 10 to 20 months.

The pride of Tenuta Montiani's small production is the ‘Felix’, a typically Tuscan red characterized by its Mediterranean aromas and its juicy and flavorful taste, with a distinctly Chianti soul.
