Bera Vittorio e Figli

Among the hills of Canelli, in the Astigiano area, precisely in the hamlet of Serra Masio, lies the family-run winery Vittorio Bera e Figli, which with love and dedication is committed to enhancing the expression of the grape variety that has most written the enological history of this territory: Moscato Bianco. Since 1758, the Bera family has been dedicated to viticulture, when the ancestor Giovan Battista purchased some vineyards belonging to the Sovereign Order of Malta. However, it was during the second half of the last century that the Bera family began bottling wines under their own name and label. Today, the winery is managed by Alessandra and Gianluigi, the children of Vittorio, whose production vision is based on two cornerstones: tradition and sustainability. In fact, the agronomic and enological practices adopted respect both the established customs of the territory and the health of the environment.

The vineyards of the Vittorio Bera e Figli winery extend over about 12 hectares, reserved for indigenous varieties such as Moscato Bianco, Cortese, Arneis, Favorita, Barbera, Dolcetto and Grignolino. The soils are mainly of a calcareous-clay matrix, a feature that enhances the aromatic richness of the finished wine, and the estate was one of the first to convert entirely to organic farming, even back in 1964, when conventional approaches were becoming popular due to their high profitability. The same genuine spirit is adopted in the winery, where interventions are minimal and always discreet, aimed at supporting the most spontaneous expression of the Canelli territory. In this perspective, selected yeasts, additives, and enological aids are not used, and invasive operations are excluded. In the production of Moscato d'Asti, the must is left to ferment spontaneously in autoclave thanks to the sole intervention of indigenous yeasts and is then bottled with a slight effervescence and a good dose of residual sugars, as per tradition.
