The “Launegild” by De Fermo blends the typical creamy texture of Chardonnay with a deep saline contribution, making it one of the most interesting Italian expressions of the renowned grape variety. The De Fermo winery is located in an area of Abruzzo that is extremely suited for viticulture, namely the magical terroir of Loreto Aprutino, and despite the long family tradition of grape production, mostly given to local winemakers, the choice to bottle their own wine is relatively recent. Since 2010, the 17 hectares of vineyards divided between Trebbiano, Montepulciano, Pecorino, and a bit of Chardonnay have been vinified in the family winery, with surprising results. The approach is to let the grape and terroir speak, banning chemicals and synthetic substances and proceeding with spontaneous alcoholic fermentations. Focused, deep, and precise wines despite their spontaneity. Well-rounded.

The white “Launegild” is made from pure Chardonnay grapes, sourced from vines trained on trellises in clay-limestone soils located between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso. The vines grow without forcing or interventions, free from any chemical substances, and are harvested and sorted manually. In the winery, after a gentle pressing, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation begins, occurring without temperature control in wooden barrels. The liquid ages for 12 months in tonneau.

The “Launegild” by De Fermo fills the glass with its slightly hazy straw-yellow hue. The nose reveals the varietal character of Chardonnay in an extremely fine and territorial way, where classic creamy notes of clarified butter and vanilla alternate with those of dehydrated pear, herbal notes, bouquets of white flowers, and saline breezes. Variegated and dynamic, the liquid also surprises on the palate, combining freshness and saline push with a velvety enveloping sensation. It fills, cleanses, flows. Bold!
