Bugno Martino
The Bugno Martino winery is an interesting reality that produces artisanal wines in San Benedetto Po in the province of Mantova. Giuseppe and Raffaella manage the estate with passion and great respect for the natural environment, with the sole aim of producing Lambrusco wines with a straightforward and genuine character, capable of authentically representing the Mantova territory. In these lands of the southern Lombardy area, Lambrusco has a very ancient history, dating back to the presence of the Benedictine monks of the Polirone Abbey in San Benedetto Po. The religious, always attentive to vine cultivation, began to select the Vis Lambrusca plants that grew spontaneously in the area, to cultivate them and vinify their grapes to obtain the wine. A centuries-old work of improving the vines, which has led to the varieties still present in the territory today.
The nine hectares of the Bugno Martino estate are cultivated with the classic grapes of the place, which for centuries have found the best interaction with the pedoclimatic characteristics of the area. The soils are medium-textured, quite rich and fertile and the climate is mild and temperate. The vineyards are managed under certified organic farming, striving to minimize the use of sulfur and copper and also using biodynamic preparations. The inter-rows are grassed and the practice of green manuring makes the soils vital, increasing the biodiversity of the ecosystem. Pruning is carried out following the Simonit&Sirch system, which preserves the plant's lymphatic vessels and provides balance and longevity. The utmost care in the vineyard has allowed the plants to achieve a natural balance with a production of about 79-90 quintals per hectare.
All operations between the rows, including the harvest, are carried out by hand, with a first selection of the best bunches already in the vineyard. As skilled artisans of wine, Giuseppe and Raffaella attribute the utmost importance to the vineyard as the center of all their work and an indispensable prerequisite for producing excellent wine. The work in the winery is oriented towards minimal intervention, aiming to always highlight the varietal aromas, the character of the territory.and the personality of each individual vintage. The wines Bugno Martino are a faithful mirror of these elements.
