Mesa

The Mesa Winery was born as a declaration of love for its territory by Gavino Sanna, the most famous and awarded Italian advertiser in the world, who in 2004 realized his dream of creating something extraordinary and simple in his Sardinia. The fundamental idea is rooted in the values of generosity and culture of the island, of which wine represents one of the most ancient expressions. This essential bond is summarized by the chosen name, which in Sardinian means "table": an image connected to the concept of nourishment, of conviviality, of maternal love, ultimately of simplicity and scents of the Sardinian land. In 2017, the company became part of the Santa Margherita Wine Group and promotes a periodic event, the Premio Mesa, dedicated to recognizing and enhancing the skills of young chefs and emerging restaurateurs.

The Mesa estate extends over a scattered area of about 78 hectares in the municipality of Sant'Anna Arresi, territory of the historical province of Sulcis-Iglesiente. The Cantina Mesa stands white and minimalist among the green of the woods and Mediterranean scrub: it is built to harness the force of gravity, with selected and destemmed grapes on the highest level and allowed to fall into the fermentation tanks below. The lowest level, several meters below ground level, represents the space for aging, where oak barrels and cement tanks are used. The wines are made for single varieties and presented in the now-iconic bottles that evoke Sardinian tradition: black like the shawl of women and dressed with labels that recall the patterns of typical tapestries.
