Chapoutier Michel

Michel Chapoutier is one of the great international protagonists of the wine world: a child prodigy who, starting in the 1980s, at the age of 26 took over the immense family estates, revolutionizing the way of cultivating the vine and producing wine, dedicating himself to full respect for nature and the territory. The story of the Chapoutier family's wine adventure began in 1808, when the ancestor Polydor Chapoutier started a small production of wines in the Rhône Valley. Today, Michel, after more than two centuries of glorious family tradition, boasts an estate of 360 hectares of vineyards throughout France, plus other holdings in Portugal, Australia, and the United States.

Michel Chapoutier's work is based on a philosophy that involves respect for biodynamic agriculture, meticulous care for the quality of each grape cluster, and the enhancement of each terroir. For Michel, the winemaker's profession represents a responsibility full of joy and generosity, with the aim of establishing a relationship of trust and of mutual commitment with the consumer. Generosity also means allowing nature to express itself freely, which is why Michel, with boldness and conviction, has chosen to avoid having his wines reflect a well-recognizable style, a “signature taste”, focusing instead on each individual vineyard and each terroir, bringing out their peculiarities and differences. Humility and willpower are the words that summarize Michel's approach, along with the values of respect, boldness, conviviality, and generosity.

The wines of Michel Chapoutier have enjoyed great international success for over 20 years due to their absolute quality. Just think that with the 2015 vintage, Michel achieved a remarkable record: in the same year 9 wines were awarded by Robert Parker with the maximum rating of 100/100. All the labels of the produced wines are also written in Braille, to allow reading for the blind. From Michel Chapoutier's original, courageous, and innovative vision, year after year, high-level wines are born that have made this great family house one of the most appreciated and awarded wine realities in the world.
