The Sadie Family

In just over twenty years, Eben Sadie has revolutionized South African viticulture, establishing himself as one of the most influential figures in the global wine scene. His estate, The Sadie Family, is located in the heart of Swartland, a region that has experienced a true renaissance thanks to his innovative vision. After traveling and working in prestigious wine regions such as Germany, Austria, Italy, Burgundy, and Oregon, Sadie decided to bring back the knowledge acquired to South Africa, founding his family business in 1999. With the release of the first vintages of Columella and Palladius, he won over critics and the market, gaining international recognition and making Swartland one of the most interesting areas in the world.

The company works 43 hectares divided into 48 plots, of which 34 are planted with vines and 24 are currently in production, adopting biodynamic practices and very low yields, equal to 1.2 pounds per vine. The work in the vineyard is meticulous and respects the philosophy that wine is born in the vineyard, minimizing interventions in the cellar. Fermentations take place in open wooden tanks, with manual punch downs and traditional vertical press, while the movement occurs by gravity without the use of pumps.traditional vertical press, while the movement occurs by gravity without the use of pumps. The two flagship wines, Columella and Palladius, embody this search for authenticity: the former is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cinsaut, and tinta barocca, powerful and complex; the latter is a unique white, the result of eleven varieties, including Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, and Verdelho, which tells the brightest soul of Swartland.

Alongside these masterpieces, the winery has experimented with projects like Sequillo Cellars and collaborates with international realities, such as Terroir al Límit in Priorat, confirming a cosmopolitan vocation while remaining deeply connected to African roots. Among the curiosities, Columella is the first South African wine to reach 95 points from Wine Spectator, a recognition that has consecrated it among the most prestigious labels in the world. Every bottle signed by Sadie Family is designed to evolve over time and offer ever-new tasting experiences, an expression of obsession with terroir and a vision that combines respect for tradition and innovative boldness.
