Valiano - Piccini

Fattoria Valiano is one of the properties of Piccini 1882, among the most well-known and exported brands throughout Tuscany, the result of an ambitious project named “Generazione Terra”, aimed at enhancing some of the Italian enological excellences. Specifically, Fattoria Valiano aims to be the voice of Chianti Classico, with the estate located within the territory of Castelnuovo Berardenga, on the southern side of the denomination. Today Piccini 1882 is led by the fifth generation of the Piccini family, represented by Ginevra, Benedetta, and Michelangelo Piccini. As for the name Valiano, it derives from the name of an ancient Roman condottiero, to whom lands were granted for his merits in war.

The property of Fattoria di Valiano extends over 230 hectares, of which 75 are reserved for vineyards. These are mainly planted on clayey soils rich in skeleton, at an average altitude of 350 meters above sea level with a predominant exposure to the southwest. The cultivated varieties include Sangiovese, emblematic of the Chianti territory, and a combination of traditional and international grapes, such as Colorino, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. In order to preserve the integrity of the bunches and to work exclusively with the best grapes, the harvest is carried out entirely by hand with a rigorous selection in the cellar. At this point, the operations of destemming and crushing are carried out, followed by separate vinification based on the grape variety and the vineyard's location. All fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks with a maceration period on the skins ranging from 7 to 15 days, except for Chardonnay which is vinified in white. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation follows, along with the aging phase, which mainly takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels, with smaller quantities matured in small French oak barrels of 225 and 500 liters.

The wines that Piccini 1882 produces under the Fattoria Valiano brand aim to reflect the extraordinary qualitative vocation of Chianti Classico, particularly of the territory of Castelnuovo Berardenga. These are flavorful wines, equipped with intense fruity and spicy references, characterized by a modern style aimed at both the national and international markets.
