Bergeret François

Domaine François Bergeret is situated in Nolay, an ancient medieval village in Burgundy, a short distance from the picturesque natural amphitheatre known as the "Bout du Monde". The Bergeret family has been cultivating these lands for four generations and maintains a strong connection with the historic vineyards of the Côte d'Or. François took over the running of the estate in 2000, following a decade of hands-on experience amongst the vines and in the family cellar. Today, the estate spans nine hectares across the communes of Nolay, Beaune and Pommard, territories offering a rich and diverse geological variety. The family’s experience allows François to act as a true craftsman and to transform each vintage into a faithful reflection of his historical heritage. The primary objective remains the production of wines that celebrate the nobility of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay through meticulous management of every stage of the production process.

The geography of the domain is characterised by the hills of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune, where the vineyards enjoy a south-easterly aspect. The clay-limestone soil and the higher altitude compared to the plain give the grapes a natural freshness and ensure slow, steady ripening. François practises sustainable viticulture and opts for minimal intervention to protect the soil’s biodiversity and the vigour of the vines. All vineyard operations, from shoot thinning to harvest, are carried out meticulously by hand. This method ensures low yields and fruit with the ideal aromatic concentration for winemaking. Manual work amongst the rows guarantees the health of the grapes and allows the unique characteristics of each plot to be identified before harvest. Constant care of the vineyard is the cornerstone of the entire estate’s philosophy, essential for capturing the mineral essence of the Burgundian terroir.

In the winery, the winemaking process follows local traditions and prioritises the expressive character of each individual appellation. François alternates between the use of oak barriques and stainless steel tanks depending on the characteristics of the vintage and the structure of the must. The ageing in wood is subtle and never masks the fruit’s fragrance, but helps to develop silky tannins and a harmonious structure. The wines are distinguished by a frank and elegant profile, offering both immediate drinkability and great ageing potential. The decision to limit invasive processes yields an authentic product that reflects the balance between the power of the terroir and the finesse of the winemaker’s touch. Each glass reveals exemplary aromatic purity, where the complexity of small red fruits or the liveliness of white flowers blend into a long, savoury and vibrant finish.
